Commercial Building next to Merdeka Padang and clock tower not advisable, a multi storey car park is proposed.

Sabah DAP is not in favor to the proposal to build a huge commercial building in between the KK Merdaka Padang and old clock tower which is the historical land mark. The said proposal is highly controversial due to many public objections and this will total spoiled the face look of the Kota Kinabalu City, especially it is located in the close proximity of the two prestige land mark of Kota Kinabalu, the Merdaka Padang and the historical clock tower.

Why blame the locals for illegal immigrants?

Sabah DAP having studied the press statement of the Minister of Plantation Industries and Commodities Tan Sri Bernard Dompok feels that the Minister should resign as Minister and MP immediately.  This is a standard in many western countries including Japan and Korea for a person to resign if he fails to deliver. Clearly, Dompok has failed to solve the illegal problem when he was assigned as the Chairman of the Integrity Committee. He is now blaming the officers for failing to impress him. This is absurd. The right thing to do is to remove the officers concerned and appoint more capable ones.

PM got nothing to offer

Tuesday, 21 September 2010 05:36 | Written by Administrator |

This year 16th September was historical when after 47 years the BN Federal Government finally accepted 16th September as Malaysia Day. Sabah was chosen to be the venue of the first Malaysia Day celebration. Prime Minister Dato Seri Najib Tun Razak celebrated Malaysia Day in Sandakan and Kota Kinabalu. It appears that he came in empty handed and leaving Sabah and the people of Sabah empty handed.

The mood of this 47th Malaysia Day is one of disappointment for the people of Sabah in particular. If we take raising the “jalung gemilang” or national flag as an indicator, we can see that only government and major companies were raising the flags. The absence of the Yang Di-Pertuan Agong, Sultans, Yang Di-Pertua Negeri, Chief Ministers/Menteri Besar, Federal Cabinet Ministers and foreign dignitaries is in the minds and lips of all Sabahans. The Yang Di-Pertua Negeri and Chief Minister of Sarawak should be in Sabah for the celebration. It appeared that this 47th Malaysia Day is only a public relation day for Prime Minister Najib and Chief Minister Musa Aman.

In Sandakan Najib and Musa drank the 1Malaysia milk together with UMNO and BN leaders and school children and later signed the official Malaysia Day celebration book in Kota Kinabalu. The Prime Minister has this to say, “what has been bonded must never break”. Najib wants the people in Sabah wherever they may be and from various races, religions and cultures to feel that UMNO and BN is a people’s champion party that fights for the people. He said we have seen Sabah grow under the leadership of Chief Minister Datuk Musa Aman and the State government.

Unfortunately, Najib continues to be lost in history. He said August 31 marks independence to us all and September 16 is a date where a nation was formed. Our Prime Minister is also off the mark when he said 80% of Sabahans and Sarawakians agreed to gain independence through Malaysia. It has been reported that one-third of the people in Sabah agreed to join the Federation of Malaysia, the other third disagreed while another third was undecided. Sadly, the 5-member Cobbold Commission which was tasked to get the feelings of the people did not include any representatives from North Borneo and Sarawak.

The Prime Minister took time to talk about the RM6.1 billion allocation from the Federal Government. Sabah DAP would like to warn Sabahans that this pledge on the RM6.1 billion could be just another pledge. We are tuned to think that there is lots of money in Sabah but the level of infrastructure development is so poor to say otherwise. There are so many delayed projects while others have been abandoned. Sabah DAP would also like to advise the government not to implement project for the sake of getting projects. The protest against the coal-fired power plant, dams in Kaiduan Penampang and Tambatuon Kadamaian is good indicators of the people feeling toward the government’s development plans.

The only tangible offer from the Prime Minister during this visit was his hope to see more Sabahans head federal departments not only in the State but also at the central level. It is inconceivable for our Prime Minister to talk about borneonization of the civil service upon reading an article by a frustrated Sabahan in the local newspapers by chance. It tells us how ignorant our Prime Minister is on the 20-points and the feelings of the people in Sabah.

While many of the 20-points of safeguards have been eroded, there is a deliberate attempt to decelerate the borneonization of the civil service, one of the agendas in the 20-points. Sabah DAP would like to remind the Prime Minister that the Kadazans (comprising the various ethnic tribes) which represents about 50% and the largest ethnic group in 1963 must be given due consideration in the process of implementing the borneonization exercise. Sabah DAP would like to see more Kadazans holding more strategic and important posts at State level and should be considered for positions as Ambassadors, High Commissions, Judges and Directors in Government-linked companies such as Petronas and EPF at the National level.

Sabah DAP Interior Mobile New Voters Registration

While doing the registration, Sabah DAP interior received many public complaints from the local communities in Tenom with regard to PPRT, flood problems, lack of low-cost housing, welfare and inadequate public utilities, amenities and even bad road conditions in the remote areas of Tenom, Kemabong and Melalap.

Since the formation of Malaysia 47 years ago, the Government again and again has announced to develop the interior area and look after the needs of the people concerned, but these declarations and commitments had failed. We can see that the condition of infrastructure, roads in interior area such as Keningau and Tenam was not much improve compared to 47 year ago. BN govern the State of Sabah and has constant to development Sabah, yet what we see now is that Sabah for a rich state become the poorest state in Malaysia. Furthermore the rich resources originally belonged to Sabah, now only be given 5%, and the remaining belong to West Malaysia. Therefore, it is time to change, and only change of government, the interior area can be development socially and financially.

Congrats Nazri for being the first in Cabinet to declare he is Malaysian first and race second – Ministers who refuse to make such declaration should be dropped from Cabinet

Tuesday, 21 September 2010 03:45 | Written by Administrator |

Congrats to Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department Datuk Seri Nazri Abdul Aziz for being the first in Cabinet to declare that he is Malaysian first Malay second in his open letter in reply to Awang Selamat of Utusan Malaysia (The Malaysian Insider).

Why it has taken more than six months since my challenge to Cabinet Ministers during the debate on the Royal Address in Parliament on March 18, 2010 to declare that they are Malaysian first and race second is really beyond me, as it demonstrates their total lack of support, commitment and political will to make Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s 1Malaysia policy work and suceeed.

I had at the time posed three simple tests of 1Malaysia to determine whether all the Cabinet Minsiters were sincerely and seriously committed to Najib’s 1Malaysia, viz:

• Whether he or she agrees to the establishment of an Opposition-headed Parliamentary Select Committee on 1Malaysia;

• Is he or she prepared to declare that the basis of 1Malaysia is “ketuanan rakyat Malaysia” and not “ketuanan Melayu”; and

• Is he or she prepared to endorse the objective of 1Malaysia as defined by the 1Malaysia Government Transformation Programme (GTP) Roadmap to create a nation where every Malaysian perceives himself or herself as Malaysian first, and by race, religion or region second.

This is what I said in Parliament on that day:

“Are Najib, Muhyiddin and all the Umno leaders prepared to stand up and declare that they are Malaysian first and Malay second?

“I declare that I am Malaysian first and Chinese second. Is every Cabinet Minister prepared to make a similar declaration?

“How many Cabinet Ministers, including the DPM, have the 1Malaysia DNA and able to pass these three simple 1Malaysia tests?”

During the debate on the Royal Address in March this year, I had asked whether the Prime Minister has got his entire Cabinet, including the Deputy Prime Minister, with him on the same page on what 1Malaysia means.

This was because the utterances and actions of Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin were most inimical to the realisation of the 1Malaysia slogan and concept, including:

• His defense of the racist “brain washing” and indoctrination on “ketuanan Melayu” by Biro Tata Negara despite criticisms and expose of its racist, divisive and seditious content for the past two decades;

• His attempt to mitigate the Nasir Safar outrage claiming that it could have been “a slip of the tongue” when Najib’s senior political aide labelled Indians and Chinese in Malaysia as “pendatang”, alleging that the Chinese came as beggars and the Chinese women as “prostitutes”; claimed that Umno was solely responsible in drafting the constitution sidelining the contribution of MCA and MIC; and issued the threat to revoke the citizenship of those vocal about the subject cap for SPM examination.

• His conspicuous silence at the JAKIM (Islamic Development Department of the Prime Minister’s Office) forum at the end of January for 800 civil servants tantamount to an insurrection against Najib’s 1Malaysia concept – with government speakers making inflammatory and incendiary speeches, blaming Christians for provoking Muslim anger by challenging the ban on the use of the word “Allah” and Umno/BN politicians for failing to defend Islam, with one speaker suggesting that a repeat of the May 13 riots was possible if the Christians, whom he accused of practising “extremism” did not “back down”, uttering the threat: “Who knows, there might be a Feb. 13?”

• His conspicuous silence when the racialist rantings of Umno executive secretary Datuk Abdul Rauf Yusoh at an Umno club function in London earlier this month was exposed; and

• His hamfisted attempt to aid and abet the inflammatory and incendiary campaign by Umno-controlled media like Utusan Malaysia, Berita Harian, government television and radio stations, playing the race and religious cards to viciously and falsely paint Penang Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng and Pakatan Rakyat Penang State Government as “anti-Malay” and “anti-Islam”.

During my speech in Parliament I posed two questions point-blank to Muhyiddin: firstly, was he aware that the Najib administration’s sincerity and seriousness about 1Malaysia was under great test in Penang because of the vicious and sustained exploitation of the race and religious card by Umno media and agents in the conspiracy to defame the Penang Chief Minister and Pakatan Rakyat Penang State Government as anti-Malay and anti-Islam?

Secondly, if the people of Penang regarded the 1Malaysia concept as fake and hypocritical, how could he expect the people of Sabah and Sarawak and the rest of Malaysians to have much confidence in the slogan?

I stressed that as Deputy Prime Minister, Muhyiddin should be in the forefront to secure the co-operation of all MPs and political parties outside the Barisan Nasional fold to make a success of the 1Malaysia campaign, on the ground that it is a national issue and not a party agenda unless the 1Malaysia concept was merely an Umno and Barisan Nasional gimmick.

I had also asked why the Najib Cabinet was full of Ministers who were quite skeptical about the 1Malaysia concept treating it as nothing more than political theatre not to be taken seriously?

I had asked: “Who are the Ministers in the Najib Cabinet who have the 1Malaysia DNA? I do not see anyone. No wonder neither Muhyiddin nor the other Cabinet Ministers comport themselves with any conviction that they are the standard-bearers of the 1Malaysia slogan and concept.”

Muhyiddin subsequently proved my criticisms right when on March 31, he responded to my challenge and declared that he is “Malay first” and then only a Malaysian.

He said: “I am Malay first! But being Malay does not mean you are not Malaysian. It is not a race issue.”

Accusing me of trying to drive a wedge between him and Najib, he said:

“The question of 1 Malaysia should not be brought up. When a leader talks about the interest of his own race, it does not mean he doesn’t support 1 Malaysia. 1Malaysia is based on the Constitution.

“How can I say I’m Malaysian first and Malay second? All the Malays will shun me and say that it is not proper.

“There is nothing wrong in leaders fighting for their own race. Don’t tell me Kit Siang does not fight for the Chinese?”

He even challenged me to declare that I was Malaysian first and Chinese second, until he was told by reporters that I had already made such a declaration – in Parliament during the debate on the Royal Address on 18th March.

And for six long months, not a single Cabinet Minister dare to declare publicly that he or she is a Malaysian first and race second, until Nazri today!

Although it has taken more than six months for Nazri to break ranks with Muhyiddin for the former to declare that he is Malaysian first and Malay second, in accordance with the objective of Najib’s 1Malaysia policy, it is better late than never.

With the example set by Nazri, all 1Malaysia-minded Ministers, should declare their stand to demonstrate to Malaysians that the 1Malaysia policy is taken seriously by Ministers themselves.

In fact, MCA, MIC, Gerakan and Sabah and Sarawak Ministers should rush to declare themselves to be Malaysian first and race second or be dropped from the Cabinet.

I would suggest that the last one of the four MCA Ministers and seven Deputy Ministers to make such a 1Malaysia declaration should be sacked from the Cabinet!

Sabah Youth can no longer ignore

Youth can no longer ignore politic today as our future and political system will be determined by our younger generations. Politics has everything to do with youth but many of them are not awarded of it they are not aware of the importance to vote as they do not understand what the government does everyday has everything to do with their lives, their wealth, their employment, income level, social problems and so forth in one way or another. Malaysia is becoming less and less competitive internationally and the outstanding Malaysian graduates are all leaving to help other nations boost their economies.

DAP KK Youth will organize more and more activities to educate and create awareness for the youth to understand how politic affects them in their everyday life. Many people, especially the younger generations, are finding that their lives have become more and more competitive. Standard of living is getting more and more difficult to cope with, their social problems cannot be solved, general security has been getting out of hands, and many other complaints. This is due to they HAVE NOT DONE the one MOST IMPORTANT AND YET SIMPLEST THING to rectify all these problems that they are facing. That is to VOTE.

Many do not believe that the POWER TO CHANGE is in their hands but it's true. They can change and they have to believe it can be done. They can vote for a better government, who will listen to their point of views, their problems, economic instability and social security etc.

It is everyone's responsibility to vote, everyone is supposed to be responsible for their own lives. Our parents are responsible for the situation we are in today because they chose the government, which they believe could deliver. So we have to be responsible for our next generations by deciding which government we believe in or rather not to choose the government we no longer believe in. Register yourself and vote in the coming 13th General election. Sabah needs your votes, Malaysia needs your votes. Do our parts as a citizen of Malaysia to fight for our own lives and for our future generations. You can always contact our mobile registration team to register yourself as voter.

Pakatan Rakyat Secretariat Sabah a turning point for PAS, PKR and Sabah DAP

Monday, 20 September 2010 09:11 | Written by Administrator |

The launching of the Pakatan Rakyat Secretariat Sabah (PRSS) on 15th September 2010 by Parti Keadilan Rakyat de facto leader, Sdra Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim, PAS Deputy President Sdra Ustaz Nasharudin Mat Isa and DAP Advsior Sdra Lim Kit Siang marked the turning point for PAS, PKR and Sabah DAP. This secretariat is a focal point for the three component parties to chart and map out policies, strategies and action plans as a cohesive political organisation, an alternative to the UMNO-led BN government in Sabah.

The launching of PRSS is a proof to the people of Sabah that Pakatan Rakyat comprising of Sabah DAP, PAS and PKR is now ready to square-off with UMNO-BN one-to-one in the coming 13th general election. We know the people want us to be united and to face UMNO-BN “satu-lawan-satu”. As we head for the 13th general election, PRSS will be having road-shows all over Sabah to inform the rakyat what Pakatan Rakyat Sabah can offer. In a two-party system, the people can choose between PR and BN. The people have realised the poor track record of UMNO-BN in Sabah and Malaysia. We appeal to the rakyat to therefore give Pakatan Rakyat one opportunity to rule Malaysia. We have proven to be capable in managing the States of Penang, Selangor, Kedak and Kelantan. Pakatan Rakyat will promise a good government and if we failed to deliver, the rakyat can always show us the way out in the 14th general elections.

Sabah BN Secretary Datuk Abdul Rahman Dahlan must not be confused between Pakatan Rakyat Secretariat Sabah and the PKR party election (The BP 18th September 2010). Talking about Sdra Anwar Ibrahim, Dr Jeffrey and Ahmad Thamrin has nothing to do with Pakatan Rakyat Secretariat. The three National leaders have seen the maturing of PAS, DAP and PKR in Sabah and for this reason they are very comfortable to grant full political autonomy to these parties to manage itself within Malaysia. However, there is one condition where the coalition would not condone nor tolerate and that is, abuse of power and corrupt practice.

Sabah DAP sympathises with UMNO and BN Sabah for not having such privilege to manage their affair. Due to this, UMNO-BN government in Sabah is hampered and unable to make decision without referring to Kuala Lumpur. Such exercise is an obstacle to the development of the State. After 47 years of independence, the people of Sabah through the UMNO-BN government have to look up to Kuala Lumpur for anything and everything.

fill at least half the 59 Federal departments in Sabah with SabahansMonday, 20 September 2010 09:37 | Written by Administrator | DAILY EXPRESS Published on: Sunday, September 19, 2010 Kota Kinabalu: The Federal Government should seriously implement the 20-Point Agreement on Borneonisation by setting a target to fill at least half the 59 Federal departments in Sabah with Sabahans as heads before the next Malaysia Day celebration on September 16, 2011, said DAP Adviser Lim Kit Siang. "(Prime Minister Datuk Seri) Najib should table this target at the Cabinet meeting next Wednesday to demonstrate that his administration is serious in wanting to address the 47-year grievances, frustrations and discontent of Sabahans and Sarawakians - making the first Malaysia Day as a national public holiday really worthwhile and meaningful," he said. He said Sabahans are disappointed that Najib came to Sabah completely empty-handed for the first Malaysia Day national public holiday in 47 years. Speaking at the Malam Pakatan Rakyat gathering cum dinner held in Beaufort, Thursday, Lim further contended that if not for People's Power as represented by the emergence of Pakatan Rakyat, Malaysia Day on September 16 would not have been declared a national public holiday by the Prime Minister even after 47 years. He said that this was why the people of Sabah and Sarawak do not want to see the declaration of Malaysia Day as a national public holiday as a mere political ploy. "But they want it to symbolise a belated recognition by and wake-up call for the Federal Government after 47 years to take seriously and address full-heartedly the frustrations, grievances and alienations suffered by Sabahans and Sarawakians for three generations at not being given full and fair treatment as Malaysian citizens - by removing once and for all the nagging sense felt by Sabahans and Sarawakians that they are not accorded recognition and rights as first-class citizens of Malaysia," he said. "This is why Sabahans and Sarawakians expect more than having Malaysia Day declared as a national public holiday - why Sabahans expect Najib to come to Kota Kinabalu and Sandakan on the occasion of Malaysia Day to announce concrete measures how the Barisan Nasional Federal Government proposes to begin to address and resolve their 47-year-old grievances, frustrations and disaffections at not being given fair and proper treatment under the Malaysian sun. "For a start, how does Najib propose to fully implement the Twenty-Point Agreement which was the "magna carta" for Sabah in 1963 to join hands with Sarawak, Malaya and Singapore to establish the new nation and federation of Malaysia?" he asked. Lim said this was especially significant citing there has been repeated calls by United Pasokmomogun Kadazan Dusun Murut Organisation (Upko), a component party of the Sabah Barisan Nasional, urging the Federal Government to fulfill what have been promised in the 20 Points Agreement. He then highlighted that one of the Twenty Points Agreement referred to a "proper Ministerial system in North Borneo" had been violated in the past 47 years. "Otherwise we would have seen a fair distribution of the state's wealth and resources among Sabahans and not the abnormality firstly, of Sabah which started as one of the richest states in Malaysia deteriorating to be one of the poorest states after 47 years; "And secondly, the emergence of a coterie of new rich revolving around the Ministers and ex-state ministers and their cronies while the overwhelming majority of Sabahans remain poor," he contended. He reiterated that a Royal Commission of Inquiry should be established to look into the 20-Point Agreement and to conduct a full and comprehensive investigation into nearly five decades of misrule, corruption and gross abuse of power in the state which negated and nullified the pledge of the Sabah Magna Carta for "a proper Ministerial system" in Sabah.

COMMENT

Malaysia is 47 years old through the unification of Malaya, Sabah, Sarawak and Singapore in 1963. (Singapore was separated from Malaysia in 1965.)

The Kuala Lumpur-Kota Kinabalu-Kuching relationship must be relooked because of the imbalance between the centre and the periphery.

Most importantly, the 20-Point Agreement has been largely ignored in making the Malaysia that we have today.

Initial attempts by Sabah first chief minister Fuad Stephens to do so resulted in him being made Australian High Commissioner.

As a result, there were regressions from Sabah’s 20-Point Agreement and Sarawak’s 18-Point Agreement as seen in the “Allah” controversy and the ban on the Malay language Bible.

Both agreements on religion state that there should be no state religion for Sabah and Sarawak.

The “Borneonisation” of the public service as agreed to in the deal has also been violated. Over the years, more public servants from the peninsula were transferred to Sabah to fill in the void.

What development?

Unfortunately, an ignorant Deputy Transport Minister Abdul Rahim Bakri recently stated that Sabahans in the interiors should be grateful as Sabah’s inclusion in Malaysia had ensured development in the state.

Using development as a bait is wrong because “development is the one term most used by politicians to cheat the people” (quoted from a Malayalam movie).

If development had indeed been provided, why is the road network in both states still bad? My brethren from both Sabah and Sarawak can attest to the fact that Sabah and Sarawak are two decades backwards compared to Peninsular Malaysia.

What development is Rahim speaking about when my brethren over there are still having difficulties to complete 11 years of education?

Contrary to Rahim’s statement, Kuala Lumpur has gained more than Kuching and Kota Kinabalu in the 47-year-old relationship.

The most recent evidence was Barisan Nasional’s slim majority in the 2008 general election, which was only made possible because of the safe deposit votes from Sabah and Sarawak.

In addition, the Mahathir administration should be “thanked” for initiating the IC project that created BN voters out of illegal immigrants from Indonesia and the Philippines

To address the imbalance, more autonomy should be accorded to Sabah and Sarawak. It can be initiated by increasing the petroleum royalty from the current 5% to 20%.

Secession by both Sabah and Sarawak is out of the question as it violates the agreement
