Voter names many missing from electoral roll

Many voters who had voted for many times in general elections found their name no longer listed in the electoral roll. These people were surprised to know when they check the electoral rolls that their names were not there and the result just simply stated that “record not found”.

They said this is not right because they had voted many times before, and how come their names being removed and the record not found.

(Record not found)

Voter names many missing from electoral roll

Many voters who had voted for many times in general elections found their name no longer listed in the electoral roll. These people were surprised to know when they check the electoral rolls that their names were not there and the result just simply stated that “record not found”.

They said this is not right because they had voted many times before, and how come their names being removed and the record not found.

Edward Ewol Mujie the vice chairman of Sabah DAP reviewed this recently that he himself had actually checked for many ranging from the older people to even young people who had voter only once during 2008 and now their names had disappeared from the roll. He said this is not right and why names in the roll can disappear just like that, and SPR better give an explanation to this effect.

Edward wants the voters to go and check their name in the roll. This is to ensure that they wouldn’t miss the chance to exercise their right as a citizen of Malaysia to vote in the important 13th general election. The people can go to check on line by going to the SPR (Election Commission) website at www.spr.gov.my or through the hand phone SMS by typing SPR (space) SEMAK (space) No.IC and send to 15888.

For those who had voted before but their record not found should immediately inform the SPR or re-register at once before the end of this month if they want to catch up with the next election. All those who had not registered themselves should go and register in the post office or the SPR office. For the transfer of voting area one must change the MYcard address first to the present resident or place or work in the area that they intend to vote. Then they have to go to the SPR or Post office to fill up the voter transfer form for submission.

Edward wants the SPR to explain why this is happening and should give the reason why the people who had voted so many times in the election now knew that their records were not found. This should not happen and the number of people involved is many. The query is also posted and can be viewed in the SPR website.
