Tambunan sign board bearing huge contract sum misled villagers //

There are many sign boards erected in 2009 for various infrastructure upgrading projects in Tambunan carried out by the MOF / ICU under the Prime Minister Department bearing a contract sum of “1 billion”, while the actual work was only for two months to upgrade a 1-km Kampong road to a rubber estate.

During his walkabout visit to the Tambunan Tamu Ground, the KK MP Hiew King Cheu was brought to view in two locations where the similar sign board was erected. He found that the word, “Peruntukan 1 Billion Tahun 2009” on the sign board was ridiculous, and for the simple reason who ever put it up had an ill intention. The new stickers with the new words on the board clearly were placed at a later stage.

Is it intentional to tell the people in the kampongs that for the small job the government had spent 1 billion? The logic behind this is not known, and difficult to reason out. That is why the people in Tambunan brought MP Hiew to see for himself. There must be a reasonable explanation on why the government department under MOF and ICU to place such sticker on the old sign board or is it that the government wanted to misled the people that they are spending 1 billion in their kampong. MP Hiew said this is a very irresponsible way, and in fact the government should put the exact contract amount on the sign board for everybody to see. There should be transparency, and every one in the kampong should know,

Furthermore why they put “1 billion” and not “RM 1 billion”? This also raised a lot of question because no one from the department will make such mistake or rather the 1 billion is referring to some other currencies. The whole thing is so funny and yet this happened on a Prime Minister Department signboard. This truly reflected the bad administration of the present BN government, and especially in Tambunan.

The people in Tambunan were happy to meet the KK MP Hiew who came to walk the Tamu ground and listen to their complaints. Together in the walkabout were DAP leaders from Tambunan, PKR leaders and the APS leaders. The group later was brought to visit a few kampongs in Tambunan to see the problems and the areas where the local elected assemblyman had neglected. There were many complaints received and these were being recorded. Hiew said he was delighted that he heard “Ubah, Tukar, Ini Kali Lah” came from the people in Tambunan. This signified the people in Tambunan also wanted to change for the better. The Pakatan Rakyat will work harder to ensure the Change will arrive in Sabah in PRU13.
