SAPP, STAR and USNO are “Spoilers” //

After the recent ceramah by Sabah Progressive Party (SAPP) in Foh Sang coffee shop, people are still asking a simple and valid question. If SAPP, STAR and USNO pack can win enough seats to become the state government while the Pakatan Rakyat (PR) wins Parliament, what will happen to the opposition state government formed by SAPP, STAR and USNO pack? Will they be like PBS when they were the state opposition government? They will not have enough money to run the state properly and difficult to conduct the day-to-day government function. Their only choice is to join PR like PBS joined BN before. So, what is the point of voting for SAPP, STAR and USNO? The people will only be wasting their votes on these three local parties, because they cannot do anything. In which case, they will be the “Spoilers” and they are there to split the votes to cut the chance of a Pakatan Rakyat win and help BN to retain power. This is a similar situation like the Sarawak National Party (SNAP) in the 2011 state election, but luckily the smart Sarawakian did not fall into the trap and SNAP failed miserably and losing all deposit except one.

SAPP has admitted that they are the “mosquito” parties that have no affiliation to BN or PR. Yong Teck Lee still insisted that in Sabah SAPP will contest in not less than 40 state seats and challenged DAP to contest at least 20 seats. In order for Yong to be a CM, SAPP have to capture enough state seats.

In contrast, DAP is a partner of the PR and a manifestation of the challenges of the “two party” system that will face the BN in the 13th General Elections. Like BN, PR will have party representatives contesting in all the States Assemblies and Parliament seats throughout Malaysia. SAPP, STAR and USNO are in no way near to that. They talk big and it is merely a case that they want to attract the Sabah voters to support them.

In SAPP first attempts to negotiate for seats with PR components parties, prior to the door being closed and locked by PR, SAPP insisted that they want to contest in no less than 40 seats, and they immediately left when they were offered fair distribution of seats among the PR parties in Sabah. This allowed SAPP to contest in all the seats, and this is their hidden intention anyway.

SAPP has claimed that DAP was boasting about their strengths and performances. It looks like the SAPP speakers are very good at twisting the words in all situations. PR states have performed very well since being elected in 2008. This can be proven by the Auditor General’s Report over the last four years. These are performances based on results achieved. Would Yong like to contest the results?

In contrast, Yong was Chief Minister of Sabah from 1996 to 1998, and what has he done and achieved? Did he do anything special to command a good report from the auditor general comparative to what Lim Guan Eng (DAP) or Tan Sri Abdul Khalid Ibrahim (PKR) in Penang and Selangor? It seemed he was very quick to “do something else” during his term as chief minister. Talk is free, and Yong can speak “louder than thunder but no rain”.

He had attempted to negotiate with PR solely for the majority of DUN seats, and he had been very skillful in twisting and turning. At the end of the road, he had achieved nothing and chose to go to the polls by themselves. What he is doing now is just like putting “sand in the cooking pot” for the PR. He tried to play on sentiments that are not practical and convincing. The leaflets distributed by them on the streets are rude and baseless, and there is no leaflets being seen attacking the BN. Is Yong still rubbing shoulders with BN? Yong once said he has no quarrel with Najib or Mahathir, but Badawi had failed him.
